“Lachapelle is a translator. He codes situations and pre- sents them as a concrete substrate. These small objects can be the mockups that suggest the core of a vision that is formulaically refined into an idea. The youngest of Lachapelle’s work carries the idea of endlessness to the virtual, and up to the highest peak. They are comprised of mirrors. Lachapelle builds labyrinths, which give rise to each other through the arrangement of the reflective surfaces’ infinite vistas. Boundless rooms, which don’t actually exist, present themselves to the beholder. That’s how Lachapelle makes the standards of traditional sculpture making obsolete.”
