Legends preserve the stories from the past and maintain imagination that would otherwise disappear over time. In essence, they carry meanings from the past into the present. In his large photographs, Steffen Junghans makes a conscious effort to continue this renewal by extending predictable ideas. There are no artificial realities in which the art works assert themselves in order to derive an absolute meaning. Instead, he creates an illusion. What is placed in front of the camera is a stage set upon a new reality and narrative that was not initially intended. The result is the product of an accident of random coincidences steering more towards fiction than fact.
